Get to know resident Gloria Fierst

Gloria Fierst loves life. You can see it in her glowing smile and the joy that lights up her face. Gloria is a lifelong resident of Jasper. “We lived on a farm just outside of town, Gloria said, everything we ate came from our ground.”

Gloria was married for 53 years to her true love John, who was a history teacher at Jasper high school. Gloria and John had seven children – four girls and three boys. Her oldest was 12 when the youngest was born. “I loved every minute raising my family,” Gloria said with a satisfied smile. “It was pandemonium at times but it was so quiet when the last one left.” Every one of Gloria’s seven children graduated from college. What a magnificent accomplishment!

Gloria moved into Brookside about a year ago, when she fell and broke her hip. “The nurses were so helpful,” Gloria said, “they want only the best for the residents.” After rehab it was an easy decision for Gloria to move into Brookside permanently. “I knew this was where I wanted to be. There are activities to keep you busy and everyone is extremely kind and supportive.”

“I believe life is what you make of it,” said Gloria. “When hard times arrive you can cry or tackle the situation. It seems to me the best course of action is to do the best you can and relish the results.” Gloria has approached life with a positive attitude, and a genuine love for all around her. She is one of the many wonderful people you will meet gracing the halls of Brookside Village and Living.
